Painting and coating for slip rings and rotary unions
Painting and coating slip rings are critical processes to maximise their durability and performance, especially in demanding environments. By applying technical coating techniques, we can ensure that our slip rings meet the highest requirements in terms of corrosion protection and mechanical resistance.

Protective coatings
Protective coatings play a key role in protecting slip rings from corrosion, moisture and other harmful influences. These coatings significantly extend the service life of slip rings and improve their reliability in harsh environments. We use special paints and coatings that provide an excellent barrier against external influences.
Functional coatings
Functional coatings offer additional benefits by improving specific properties of the slip rings. One widely used method is powder coating, which creates a particularly resistant and durable surface. Powder-coated slip rings are extremely resistant to mechanical and chemical influences such as scratches, abrasion and corrosion. These properties make powder coating ideal for applications in which the slip rings are exposed to high loads.
Anodising
Another important process is anodising, which is used for aluminium parts in particular. Anodising not only makes the surface of the slip ring corrosion-resistant, but also harder and more abrasion-resistant. This significantly increases the service life and performance of the slip rings. In addition, anodising enables the application of coloured coatings that can be used for identification and visual design.
Special colours
We offer the option of coating or painting slip rings in special colours according to customer requirements. This enables seamless colour integration of the slip rings into our customers’ machines and systems. To do this, we need to know the desired RAL colour. The RAL colour palette offers a wide range of colours to ensure that the slip ring matches the existing equipment perfectly.
Resistance of the slip rings due to coatings
A frequently requested aspect is the resistance of the slip rings to seawater for maritime applications or the offshore sector. To ensure that our slip rings can withstand these extreme conditions, we carry out a salt spray test. This test checks the resistance of the slip rings to salt water and simulates the corrosive conditions to which the slip rings are exposed in maritime environments.
The requirement for corrosion resistance is often specified in the categories C3 or C4H. C3 denotes medium corrosion exposure, which typically occurs in urban and industrial environments with moderate air pollution. C4H, on the other hand, stands for a high corrosion load, which occurs in aggressive industrial areas and coastal regions where the slip rings are exposed to strong salt water and intense humidity.
By applying these stringent tests and using highly resistant coatings, we can ensure that our slip rings can withstand the most demanding environments and offer a long service life and reliable performance.
In summary, by combining protective coatings, functional coatings, individual colour coatings and special tests for resistance to seawater, we offer comprehensive solutions that ensure our slip rings meet the highest technical requirements and are optimally adapted to the needs of our customers.
